Beyond crops and pets, Grow a Garden has an NPC Friendship system built around three characters — Sam, Eloise, and Giant — each with their own personality, favorite foods, and unlockable rewards. Building friendship with these NPCs opens up shop tabs and items you can't access any other way.

How NPC Friendship Works

• Feed an NPC once every 24 hours — you can't stack multiple feeds in a day
• Bring food and hold it in front of the NPC to feed them
• Each feeding gives friendship points, with a bonus for mutated food — feeding a mutated item earns more points than a plain one
• Friendship builds across multiple levels, unlocking new rewards at each threshold

Sam — The Seed Shop NPC

Sam has 5 friendship levels, requiring up to 50 points total. Leveling up Sam's friendship unlocks a second Seed Shop tab containing 4 additional seeds that restock every hour — separate from the main Seed Shop rotation. Each of these bonus seeds has its own friendship-level requirement before it becomes purchasable, so higher friendship progressively unlocks better seeds in that tab.

Eloise and Giant

Eloise and Giant round out the three friendship NPCs, each with their own bonus type and reward track distinct from Sam's seed-focused unlocks. • Save mutated food for feeding when possible — the bonus points from a mutated item make each feeding count for more, so it's worth holding a mutated crop for your daily feed rather than selling it if you're actively working toward a friendship level
• Check each NPC's favorite food before feeding — mismatched food may still work but favorite foods are generally the more efficient path to points
